spring

Top pic - my kid decorates eggs, applies tattoo (a tricky process) Saturday, 3/22/08.

Middle pic - my kid scatters bread crust crumbs (leftover from Easter frittatta brunch dish) for birds in backyard, using Easter basket (plastic bowl hidden within), in carefully (self) planned outfit, 3/23/08.

Bottom pic - the Vegetannual. As I read chapters 3 & 4 of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver, I think about our own Western New York brand of beautiful, cruel spring. I was sick all last week - nasty ear infection, tonsillitis, and allergic reaction to antibiotic. The first day of spring here greeted us with a heavy blanket of snow.

My students have begun a health action research project. It's moving along nicely - will report back soon.

diorama

This was the characterization project that my students worked on during the days I was scoring the NYS ELA assessment papers (as planned) and then on the days of my bereavement leave (unplanned). Students chose a main character in A Wrinkle in Time and wrote a paragraph about characterization, then they created either a diorama (I supplied most of the materials you see above, some students supplemented with materials from home) or a mini-poster to depict a scene from the novel. Needless to say, you're looking at the best products.

something new

A poetry blog - roller coaster poetry - because,

1) teaching poetry taught me to love writing poetry,
2) there's no day like today to start something new, and
3) I can share it with you.

I hope you try something new today, too.
